 NSTU is one of the oldest and biggest universities of the Russian Federation. In 2007 NSTU celebrated its ninetieth anniversary.

Our strategy is to create new educational formats: from the system of remote education to supreme electronic (virtual) systems; coupling performance criterion of education in NSTU with employers' requirements. The Nizhny Novgorod polytechnic institute (NNPI)
was founded on the basis of the Warsaw polytechnic institute
on October, the 1st, 1917.

 The Gorky polytechnic institute was awarded with the Red Banner of Labour by decree No. 2446-x of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR from July 8th, 1980.
The Nizhny Novgorod polytechnic institute got the status of the Technical University and was given a new name of the Nizhny Novgorod state technical university by the order No. 1133 of the Ministry of science, higher education and technological policy of Russian Federation from December 24th, 1992.
In accordance with the resolution No. 33 from February, the 2nd of 2007 the government of Nizhny Novgorod region has named the Nizhny Novgorod State Technical university after Rostislav Yevgenyevich Alekseev. (Read more...)

The main activity of NSTU is preparation of highly skilled specialists for science and industry.
At present:
The University possesses the developed infrastructure comprising 11 full-time, evening and correspondence part-time faculties, military training faculty, regional center for retraining of military men.
The University includes 4 institutes: Institute of radio engineering and information technologies, Institute of manufacturing engineering technologies, Arzamas polytechnic institute and Dzershinsk polytechnic institute and three branches established in 2000: Zavolzhye branch, Vyksa branch and Pavlovo branch.
The University has 8 representative offices in the towns and districts of the Nizhny Novgorod region: Balakhna, Bogorodsk, Bor, Kstovo and industrial communities Vacha, Pervomaysk, Shahunya, Savasleyka.
168 Doctors of Science and full professors, 602 Ph. D. work for the University and its branches.
Now more than 27000 students of different forms of training study at the Technical University and its branches (more than 18000 at the Technical University).
The University has 28 Bachelor degree courses, 24 Master degree courses and 74 courses of study for different professions.
The University branches train specialists at 9 Bachelor degree courses and 24 professions.
The postgraduate training in conformity with the licence is available for 58 postgraduate degree courses as well as the doctorate with 4 major research trends.
11 Doctorate Boards for dissertations' defense are available at the University.
The University has 19 R&D schools in different research trends. The scientists of the University accomplished R&D activities amounting to more than 40 mln. rubles (the exchange rate for 20.09.2005 is 1$ = 28.45 rubles).

Nizhny Novgorod state technical university was awarded a golden medal in the category "100 best Russian universities", Vladimir Petrovich Kiriyenko, the rector of the university, was given the title "Rector of the year - 2005".
